Home Improvement Hardware

Hardware for the home includes hinges, outlet covers, door knobs, drawer pulls, cabinet handles, light fixtures, and door plates. Replacing these items instantly adds life to old cabinets or updates dated lighting. The subtle change shows a penchant for detail.

Many people with historical homes look for antique hardware to revive a home. Antique hardware is hard to find and takes a little patience, especially if someone is looking for sets of one item. Online auctions, antique stores, and garage and estate sales are a good place to look for these items.

If the homeowner is having a hard time selecting hardware there are some factors that can aid in the decision making. Is the home a historical home? If so what style of home is it? Is it a craftsman style, cottage, or Tudor revival? Each of these types of homes has certain details in the hardware, researching the style of home will help the homeowner decide.

If the house is newer consider the woods used in the home. Brushed nickel looks great against light to medium woods like maple. If the cabinets and trim are white or kind of plain use the hardware as a chance to add some uniqueness. Look for quirky shapes or colors to make the hardware pop against the plain canvas.
